New Delhi : Both houses of parliament Friday unanimously passed a resolution rejecting Pakistan National Assembly motion against theexecution of Parliament House attack convict Afzal Guru.
“This house totally rejects the resolution passed by the National Assembly of Pakistan on March 14,” said the resolution, which was read out in the Lok Sabha by Speaker Meira Kumar and in the Rajya Sabha by Chairman M. Hamid Ansari. The resolution was adopted unanimously.
“The house rejects interference in the internal affairs of India and calls upon the National Assembly of Pakistan to desist from acts of support for extremists and terrorists,” the resolution said.
It said that only the fulfilment of Pakistan’s commitment that “it will not allow its territory to be used for terrorism against India” can be the basis for peaceful relations with that neighbouring country.
The resolution also stressed that the border state of Jammu and Kashmir, including its territories occupied by Pakistan, is an integral part of India.
“The house reiterates that the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir, including territory under illegal occupation of Pakistan, is and shall always be an integral part of India,” it said.
“Any attempt from any quarter to interfere in the internal affairs of India will be met resolutely and with complete unity of our nation,” the resolution added.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley took up the issue at 11 a.m. as soon as the upper house met.
He said the Pakistan National assembly resolution was an “official stamp of approval” on the attack that almost triggered a war between India and Pakistan and no friendly ties or dialogues were possible with Pakistan.
“Not only is this an interference in the internal affairs of India but this is an approval of the worst terror attack on India,” he said.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla said the whole house agreed with Jaitley’s sentiment.
Pakistan’s National Assembly Thursday passed a resolution condemning the hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
Afzal Guru, hanged Feb 9 after being on death row for about eight years, was found guilty of plotting the attack on parliament Dec 13, 2001.
