Pune : At least four hunters who had intruded the high-security thickly-forested campus of the National Defence Academy here for killing wild animals were apprehended with their dogs Sunday, an official said.
Sandeep Sonar, 32, Amit Sonar, 26, Shanker Parge, 24, and Devshanker Wangale, 21, were apprehended around 7.45 a.m. by the NDA police led by Lt. Col. K.G. Mohanty, along with a pack of seven hunting dogs in the 29 square km campus.
The seized goods include two handmade bombs, three spears, four mobile phones and a carcass of a wild boar killed by them and other photographic evidences.
They have been handed over to the forest department.
The NDA Commandant, Air Marshal K.S. Gill, reiterated that the NDA campus has been “a safe haven for a variety of protected flora and fauna and it’s our continual effort to protect them”.
This was for the first time that a gang of professional hunters was apprehended inside the NDA campus.
