IIM-Shillong student drowns

Shillong : A 23-year-old student of the Indian Institute Management (IIM)-Shillong drowned Sunday in a whirlpool along the Sweet Falls on the outskirts of the city.

The victim was Kartik Mishra from Kolkata. He was a first year post-graduate management student. He had trekked to Sweet Falls with 17 others at 7.30 a.m. Sunday from the campus.

“Mishra slipped and was caught in a deadly whirlpool,” Mariahom Kharkrang, district police chief of East Khasi Hills, told IANS.

“A team of divers from the fire and emergency services and the army fished out the body, which has been sent for a post-mortem. A case has been registered,” Kharkrang said.

IIM-Shillong director Kaya Sen Gupta ruled out any foul play in Mishra’s death.
