New Delhi : Two people from Mizoram were arrested from Delhi airport for carrying 115 kg tablets of contraband drug pseudoephedrine worth nearly Rs.1.2 crore, said police Tuesday.
Lianthuama Chhakchhuak, 48, a welder, and Sawithanga, 53, a carpenter, were arrested Monday and around 57.5 kg tablets were recovered from each of them.
Central Industrial Security Force Deputy Commandant and Spokesperson Hemendra Singh told IANS that the two were arrested on the basis of a tip-off that contraband drug was being trafficked aboard a plane.
“Their baggage was offloaded from the flight and they were handed over to police after the recovery of the drug,” said the officer.
“A total of 115 kg pseudoephedrine tablets were recovered,” said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police (crime).
