India, Bangladesh discuss steps to curb border crimes

New Delhi : Senior officials of India and Bangladesh’s border forces Tuesday held talks on issues like trans-border smuggling, fencing of open patches, and encouraging confidence building measures.

As part of border coordination conference, a 27-member delegation of Border Security Force (BSF) led by its Director General Subhash Joshi met the visiting 23-member delegation of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) led by its chief, Major-Gen. Aziz Ahmed here.

The conference took place at BSF headquarters and the forces discussed several issues like movement of locals and criminals across the border, and smuggling.

“Trans-border crime committed by criminals on both sides of the border, prevention of smuggling of fake Indian currency, cattle and contraband, prevention of illegal migration and infiltration were discussed,” said a statement issued by the BSF.

Joint survey and fencing of unfenced patches and how to increase confidence building measures were also discussed, the statement said.
