Islamabad: At least 12 people were killed and 35 injured, 25 of them critically, when a bomb hit a refugee camp in Pakistan’ s Nowshera city Thursday, officials said.
The blast occurred in the morning when internally displaced people from neighbouring Khyber tribal area were gathering at a food distribution centre in Jalozai camp, the largest refugee camp in the country, Xinhua reported.
An estimated 30 to 35 kg of explosive material was fixed in a car, parked outside the distribution centre, to carry out the remote control-triggered blast, a senior city official said.
The centre is home to over 70,000 refugees from the country’s tribal areas and Afghanistan.
Any group was yet to take responsibility for the blast.
