Gurgaon : National women’s kabbadi team coach and Dronacharya awardee Sunil Dabas Friday fainted on stage after a legislator allegedly made a remark on her clothes during a college function here, police said.
The incident caused students of Dronacharya Government College to create a ruckus, forcing Congress legislator and former minister Rao Dharampal to leave the venue abruptly, they said.
A student claimed Dharampal told Dabas that she was a teacher and if a teacher wore such clothes, what message was she giving to students.
But the legislator denied making any such remark.
The coach’s husband Vivek Dabas also claimed that his wife fainted after the legislator made a remark on her clothes.
After the legislator spoke to her, Dabas, wearing a cream-coloured shirt and black trousers, lost consciousness on the dias, said a student. She was rushed to a hospital in a police van.
“Her heartbeat and blood pressure went up and she became unconscious,” Vivek Dabas told IANS. She was later shifted to Medicity Medanta hospital here.
Vivek Dabas said a police team came to register his wife’s statement but she was not in a condition to speak.
“The police will certainly take action once we get a written complaint,” Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal told IANS.
But Dharampal told IANS he did not make any remark on the coach’s clothes.
He said the ruckus was part of college politics and the issue had been resolved.
“Maine to kaha tha ki beti tum bahut badi khiladi ho; bahut inaam tumne jeete hain; dhang se raha karo.” (I just said that daughter, you are a big player; you have won many awards; you should behave properly.)
Dabas heads the college’s physical education department.
College principal R.K. Yadav said he did not hear the legislator, who was the chief guest at the college’s annual prize distribution function, make any remark on Dabas’ clothes.
He said Dharampal left the function early to attend a cremation.
