Ranchi : A man poured acid on his wife in Jharkhand Friday after she refused to stay with him, police said.
Shankar, who worked in a chemical factory in Punjab, attacked Gauri by throwing acid on her at the house of his in-laws at Sudamdih colony in Dhanbad town, about 170 km from here. His mother-in-law also sustained acid burns in the attack.
“Shankar was caught and thrashed by locals. Later, he was admitted to hospital with injuries. A case has been registered against him and he will be arrested,” a police official said.
Police said the couple got married in 2006, but due to financial problems Shankar went to Gujarat to earn money, leaving Gauri behind to stay with his in-laws. However, after returning from Gujarat last year when he asked Gauri to shift to his house, she refused to go with him.
Shankar alleged that his wife was in illicit relation with another man.
He left for Punjab to work in a chemical factory and returned to Jharkhand Wednesday. On Friday, Shankar again tried to persuade Gauri to live with him and attacked her with acid when she refused, police said.
