Parliament again disrupted over Sri Lankan Tamils issue

By IANS,

New Delhi : Proceedings in both houses of parliament were disrupted Friday over the issue of Sri Lankan Tamils and led to the Lok Sabha being adjourned for the recess.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, members from DMK and AIADMK were on their feet protesting against the resolution against Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which, they held, was not strong enough.

DMK members also raised the issue of raids by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at the residence of party leader M.K. Stalin.

Amid protests, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house till noon. When the house met again, the commotion continued and the house was finally adjourned till April 22.

In the Rajya Sabha, DMK members demanded that the government make a statement on the CBI raid at Stalin’s house in Chennai.

“Government should react,” said DMK’s Tiruchi Shiva.

AIADMK members were, meanwhile, displaying placards with a picture of the dead son of slain LTTE chief V. Prabhakaran.

Members from both DMK and AIADMK raised slogans demanding “justice”, following which Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the house till noon and later till 2.30 p.m.
