Fifth Mau film festival dedicated to struggle of Irom Sharmila

Lucknow: The fifth edition of Mau film festival will be dedicated to the struggle of Irom Sharmila, who is on hunger strike for twelve years now for repealing Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) that gives the army undue powers in disturbed areas.

The festival would be held between March 23 and 25, the martyrdom days of Bhagat Singh and Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, respectively.

The Mau Film Society started in 2008, and the first ‘Mau Film Festival’ was organized on March 23, 2009 at village Sahupur in the district. It has since been organized every year.

Named Shahadat se Shahdat tak (from one martyrdom to martyrdom), this year 10 films and documentaries, including AFSPA-1958, would be screened at three different locations in the district.

Other films to be screened include Tales from the Margins, Jai Bhim Comrade, Children of Heaven (Persian with English subtitle), Gaon Chorab Nahi, Inquilab, Bawandar, India Untouched, Shudra –the Rising, Harvest of Greif and Garam Hawa.
