Kolkata: A relative of West Bengal Transport Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra was Sunday arrested and remanded to police custody till March 30 for allegedly molesting a woman and destroying public property, police said.
“Soumyajit Banerjee, along with six of his friends, was arrested early Sunday morning and booked under several offences including molestation, causing hurt and destroying public property,” said an officer of the city’s Kalighat police station.
The son of Mitra’s brother-in-law, Banerjee, along with some of his friends, allegedly molested a woman during an altercation late Saturday night. They also destroyed some police barricades put up in the road and ransacked an eatery.
“Banerjee, against whom a complaint of molestation was filed, has been remanded to police custody till March 30,” added the officer.
