Kolkata : A central excise official from West Bengal has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.3.50 lakh.
Dipyendu Chowdhary, superintendent of central excise, anti-evasion, under the Haldia Commissionerate, allegedly demanded and accepted bribe from the manager of a resort in Port Blair.
Chowdhary was arrested and presented in a city court Tuesday, which remanded him to 14 days’ judicial custody, the CBI said in a release.
The amount too was recovered which the accused had deposited in 14 bank accounts.
