New Delhi: Two men including a son of Uttrakhand minority commission’s former vice chairman have been arrested for making an extortion call to a real estate realtor, police said Thursday.
According to police, on April 20, the complainant lodged a complaint at Greater Kailash police station about receiving a threatening call for extortion from an international number by an unknown person who identified himself as Chima Shahi.
On a tip off, Deepak Tyagi was arrested from the Connaught Place area in central Delhi on May 5.
The mobile phone used for making the threatening calls along with four different SIM cards and a small pocket diary was recovered from his possession.
On May 7, co-accused Balbir Singh has also been arrested from Uddham Singh Nagar in Uttrakhand. The Nepalese SIM which was also used for making the threat call has also been recovered.
Police said Singh’s father was the vice chairman of the State Minority Commission (of the rank of minister of state) in a previous Uttarakhand Government
Police are checking their involvement in other cases also.
