Police to confront BSP MP with video footage

    New Delhi: BSP parliamentarian Dhananjay Singh and his wife, arrested for allegedly torturing their maid to death, will be confronted with CCTV footage taken from the MP’s official residence and asked to identify some people seen in the video, Delhi Police told a court here Saturday.

    Police also sought four days custody for interrogating the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP and his wife Jagriti.

    Police told Metropolitan Magistrate Jasjeet Kaur that the accused was required to be confronted with digital video recordings (DVRs) of CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of certain unidentified people.

    Police are examining 2,000 hours of CCTV footage recorded from 20 cameras installed at the 175, South Avenue residence where the alleged incident took place.

    The court remanded the couple to two days police custody.

    However, defence counsel Hariharan opposed the plea, saying his client Dhananjay Singh was not residing at 175, South Avenue for the last two years and he was not even in Delhi between Nov 1 and 4 when the alleged incident took place.

    Dhananjay Singh, who represents Jaunpur Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested and booked for destruction of evidence and violating the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

    His wife Jagriti, a dentist at a government hospital, has been booked for murder, attempt to murder and for violating the Juvenile Justice Act.

    Jagriti allegedly beat and tortured her 35-year-old maid Rakhi, and another help, Rampal, 17, for days.
