Gang leader Prem Shankar, currently lodged in Tihar Jail in a similar case for the last nine months, was arrested Sep 9 following court permission.

Sharma’s two other associates – Suresh Chand, a serving DDA class IV employee and Harsh Chand, a serving DDA security guard – were arrested Tuesday from their hideouts in Delhi.

Naveen Kumar, 41, Ajay Kumar, 36, Shailender Bhatia, 53, and Padam Singh, 53, were arrested earlier.

Total seven people have been arrested in the case.

They duped several people of Rs.3.83 crore on the pretext of allotting them DDA plots in Delhi.

Police acted on the complaint of Kanwal Sahni of north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar. Sahni had informed police he was assured of plot allotment in DDA office.

“Sahni even deposited the money in DDA office through bank draft but upon checking, he found the documents relating to allotment were forged,” said the officer.

He added, “Then, three more people also cheated by the same gang came forward.”

During interrogation, the accused said their gang was headed by Sharma, already involved in 17 such cases.

“Sharma, a DDA pump operator, was dismissed in 2012. He projected himself as a DDA assistant director. He used to dispatch forged plot documents by post from the DDA office,” the officer added.

The accused even used to submit some amount in DDA accounts to assure a victim.

“Shailender would pose as a DDA junior engineer. He would go to the spot and give possession of the plot to the victim in the presence of hundreds of people by measuring it in different localities of east and west Delhi,” said the officer.
