Shillong: A central government official has been arrested by the Meghalaya police for allegedly attacking his colleague at a resort in state’s Ri-Bhoi district, police said Thursday.
Mahindar Singh Dhanda, assistant director (INM division) in the agriculture ministry, was arrested Wednesday after the victim lodged a complaint, Ri-Bhoi police chief C.V.S. Reddy told IANS.
Reddy said Dhanda was remanded in two days’ police custody by a court.
“We don’t know what was Dhanda’s intention by entering her room with a knife and then shutting her mouth,” police said, adding they were interrogating him to find out his intention.
Both the victim and the accused were attending a national seminar at the resort located near the North East Police Academy.
Police have registered a case against Dhanda under sections 448, 324, 354 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code relating to attempt to murder, molestation, causing hurt, and house trespassing.
