Kabul: Twenty-two militants were killed Saturday in a clash between security forces and militants in Afghanistan, an army source said.
“The Afghan army and police came in contact with the militants in Waligram area of Chapadara district. The engagement lasted for hours, killing 22 armed militants”, Xinhua reported as Haron Yousufi, the army spokesman in the region, saying.
He said three local Taliban leaders, including Sarhadi and Qadir, were among the dead.
He also said no soldier was injured in the clash that took place in the eastern Afghan province of Kunar, 158 km east of national capital Kabul.
The Taliban insurgent group is yet to make a comment.
The Kabul police said Saturday that they captured a vehicle with 42 bags full of explosives in eastern Kabul, thus foiling a terror attack there.
