Srinagar: Two separatist guerrillas were killed Tuesday in a gun battle with the security forces in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said.
A police officer told IANS: “On a specific tip-off, the special operations group of state police Rashtriya Rifles surrounded a house in Gushbug village of Bandipora today evening.”
“Holed up militants were challenged to surrender but they started firing at the security forces, triggering an encounter,” the official said.
Two militants have been killed in the incident and their identity is being established, he said.
Exchange of fire has stopped but searches are still going on, he added.
