Abu Dhabi : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced an aid package of 220 million dirhams ($60 million) for Syrian refugees in response to an appeal from the UN
Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE’s minister of gevelopment and international co-operation, at a press conference here Tuesday said that the UAE’s leadership was committed alongside the international community to alleviate the repercussions of humanitarian catastrophe in Syria.
She said upon the directives of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and in response to the UN plan to address the Syrian crisis, the UAE allocated 220 million dirhams, of which 183 million dirhams was allocated for the UN plan inside Syria and 37 million dirhams allocated for the UN regional plan for Syrian refugees in Jordan.
Sheikha Lubna said the ministry, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, would disburse the grant.
