Madrid Thirty-two people were killed on Spain’s roads during Holy Week celebrations, the country’s traffic authority said Monday.
A total of 25 accidents took place since Spain’s Easter holiday season officially kicked off April 11, the Local quoted the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) as saying in a statement.
The worst day on the roads was April 12 when nine people died, it said.
The DGT predicted there would be 12.5 million car journeys undertaken in Spain during this year’s Easter holidays. The authorities have launched a road safety campaign that will come to an end Tuesday.
In 2013, a total of 1,128 people lost their lives in road accidents in Spain, 173 fewer than in 2012.
