Lucknow: Karwan-e-Bedari of the Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) led by noted film director and social activist Mahesh Bhatt entered in Lucknow to garner support for the Congress candidate Ms. Rita Bahuguna in 2014 Lok-Sabha elections. The Karwan comprising senior teachers and scholars of the Aligarh Muslim University has influenced the Muslim electorate in favour of Congress.
Apart of Lucknow being an important constituency, it should be mentioned that Smt. Rita Bahuguna is contesting from here. It is a well-known fact that the contribution of Smt. Rita Bahuguna and her family including her father and former UP Chief Minister late Shri Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna is beyond any doubt. In her public career she is honest and secular. We feel that the nation needs her services for its secular polity and justice.

Addressing the media Persons, Mahesh Bhatt said that presently the country is passing through a very crucial phase and there are chances of drifting it towards fascism. He further added that Muslims have historical relations with Congress. They were lagging behind in every field and the UPA-I had appointed the Sachar Committee to unearth their real social, economic and educational backwardness. The UPA-II embarked upon implementing the recommendations of the Committee and that benefited the deprived Muslims in various ways.
He said that our intention is that the process of implementation of recommendation of Sachar Committee must continue. He said that on the other hand some communal forces are trying to hijack the Indian democracy and danger of fascist polity is looming on us. So it is to be ensured that secular votes are not divided as the benefit of divison of votes always go to BJP. He told that the Karwan visited Muslim dominated areas to plead for supporting the Congress. Mahesh Bhatt said that only Congress can save this country from chaos.
Lucknow Congress candidate Dr. Rita Bahuguna Joshi while welcoming Mr. Mahesh Bhatt said that the battle is for principles and ideological. Recalling the old culture of Lucknow she said that culturally Lucknow has a composite culture and that should be continued. She called upon the electorate to defeat the BJP for inclusive development. Earlier Mahesh Bhatt garlanded the portrait of Late Shri Hem Vati Nandan Bahuguna former Chief Minister of UP and father of Dr. Rita Bahuguna Joshi on his Birth Anniversary.
Canvener of Karwan, Jasim Mohammad said that the aim of MBMC and its Karwan is to bring the Congress into power again because only Congress professes the inclusive polity. He said that the history of Congress reveals that it has always supported weaker sections and minorities and has under taken their development and empowerment. He said that communal forces have geared up to capture power and so in this political scenario it is very important to unite the secular votes.
Farhat Ali Khan said that the scholars and intellectuals have responsibilities to guide the community for positive voting. He said that the division of secular votes will push the country to a place from which it may not return to its original secular polity. He said that BJP and particularly Narendra Modi is trying to change secular India into a Hindu Rashtra and that has to be stopped.
It may be recalled than the Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC), Aligarh is a social organization working in the field of Muslim empowerment. It has carried on Karwan-e-Bedari in Muslim dominated Lok-Sabha constituencies to garner the support for the Congress.
Convener of Karwan Jasim Mohammad told that the Karwan has already campaigned in 27 Districts. He said that the Karwan has received very positive response in Lucknow and adjoining. Jasim Mohammad told that the Karwan will move to Varanasi, Jaunpur, Mirzapur from 1st May 2014 for further campaigning. He expressed hope that the Karwan will yield positive results and UPA-III will come into power.
