Kolkata: A city court Friday granted conditional bail to Saradha chit fund scam kingpin Sudipta Sen’s wife Piyali but remanded his son Subhojit in judicial custody till April 30.
The duo was arrested April 17 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and was under the agency’s custody.
“Piyali was granted bail today (Friday) on the condition that she will cooperate with the investigation and not leave the jurisdiction of the court. Subhojit has been remanded in judicial custody till April 30,” their counsel Samir Das said.
Probing the scam, the ED has so far attached numerous properties of the Saradha group, including those owned by Sudipta and his family, and Thursday Piyali’s residence.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress candidate from Balurghat in South Dinajpur district Arpita Ghosh, on summon from the ED, appeared before the agency during the day.
Ghosh, a former employee of the Saradha Group, had filed a case against Saradha promoter Sudipta for non-payment of her salary which eventually led to his arrest.
Sudipta and several of his cronies are now behind bars for the scandal which came to light in April last year.
Suspended Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh is also under arrest for his alleged complicity in the scandal.
