New Delhi: A book released here at Press Club of India on Tuesday evening gives new twist to the mystery surrounding the murder of Rajiv Gandhi. The book titled as “Assassination of Rajiv Gandhi: An Inside Job?” written by Journalist Faraz Ahmad was released by senior journalist and editorial chairman of Outlook group Vinod Mehta. The eminent panelists included Anand K Sahay, President of Press Club and famous social activist KN Govindacharya. Senior journalist Zafar Agha also expressed his view before the audience.
Addressing the gathering of journalists and audience Faraz, the writer of book said, “From day one I had suspensions on the matter but did not have the courage to write about it. Though I did not name anyone as a killer in my book due to court concern but one who read the book find the sense very clear,” he added, without naming anyone.
When someone from the audience named Narsimha Rao and Chandra Shekher as possible suspects, Faraz smiled and quipped, “Read the book you will find the answer”.
Denying the role of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) vehemently, the writer said, “Rajiv assassination has nothing to do with larger cause of LTTE”. It was the political contract to bring Congress in power again and they achieved the goal, he added.
Citing example of Yasser Arafat, Agha said that before assassination of Rajiv Gandhi even Palestinian Intelligence warned of it. During president’s iftar party this month Sonia Gandhi confirmed it, Agha declared at the luncheon.
Lauding the efforts of Faraz, senior journalist Vinod Mehta said that Faraz picked up an issue which we assume there are plenty material about it but you have always space to find new angle to every topic. “Faraz inquired into where investigative agencies did not reach deliberately,” Mehta added.
RSS veteran and BJP ideologue KN Govindacharya also praised writer for his delighting endeavors and said, “I have gone through this book (and realized) how political discourse may be and could be diverted.”
This book provides the answers to those who seek to know the history of the mystery, he added.
