Tehran: Iran’s elite Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said it has downed an “Israeli spy drone” over its territory, media reports said Sunday.
The radar-evading drone was about to penetrate into Natanz nuclear site in the central province of Isfahan, but was shot down by IRGC missile immediately, IRNA quoted an IRGC statement as saying.
“The mischievous act once again proved the adventurist nature of the Zionist war-mongering regime,” the statement added.
“IRGC along with other armed forces are well-prepared to defend the country’s territorial integrity and reserve the right for any crushing response,” it stated.
Earlier, Iran launched a uranium-conversion plant which will produce enriched uranium dioxide in Isfahan province within the framework of the agreement with the P5+1 group, namely Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States plus Germany.
Under an interim deal reached between Iran and the P5+1 that came into effect Jan 20, Iran would suspend some sensitive nuclear activities in exchange for limited sanction relief, and the two sides would negotiate over a comprehensive deal within six months.
