Jerusalem/Gaza: Israel Sunday killed a senior Hamas official in the Gaza Strip, a military spokesperson said, in a fourth targeted strike on top Hamas leaders over the past week.
The official was named Mohamed Al-Oul and was in-charge of Hamas financial transaction of “terror funds”, Xinhua quoted an Israeli military spokesperson as saying.
The spokesperson confirmed that Israeli warplanes targeted Al-Oul earlier Sunday in the northern Gaza Strip.
However, it was not immediately clear whether other people were killed in the attack.
On Thursday, Israel struck the houses of three senior leaders of Hamas military wing, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, in the southern Gaza Strip.
A day earlier, Israel attempted to kill Mohammed Deif, commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades, who escaped Israeli assassination attempts at least four times in the past.
The fate of Deif has remained unknown but the attack killed his wife and child.
Earlier in the day, Israeli air strikes destroyed a six-story apartment building and a business mall in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military operation in Gaza will go on until Israel’s security goals are reached.
Ahead of the weekly cabinet meeting held at Tel Aviv’s Kirya military headquarters Sunday, Netanyahu said there will not be any immunity to those who fire at Israeli citizens.
Egypt had called on Israel and the Palestinians to ceasefire indefinitely and immediately resume talks in Cairo to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement that ends the ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Israel Defence Forces spokesperson, more than 30 rockets and shells have been fired Sunday from Gaza towards Israel, mostly to southern Israel.
Ashraf al-Qedra, health ministry spokesman in Gaza, told reporters a Palestinian was killed and five injured in an Israeli air strike Sunday.
At least 2,108 Palestinians have been killed and 10,660 wounded and as many as 68 Israelis have been killed since the conflict started in July, the health ministry in Gaza said.
