Saksham scheme to benefit 84 differently-abled students

New Delhi : Eighty four differently-abled students are likely to be benefited under the government’s Saksham scholarship scheme during the current financial year, parliament was told Wednesday.

The scheme is being implemented by the ministry of human resource development (HRD) through the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to provide encouragement and support to 1,000 differently abled students to pursue technical education.

“This scholarship is for those differently-abled students whose family income is less than Rs.6 lakhs per annum…During the current financial year, 84 differently abled students are likely to be benefited under the scheme based on the applications received till date,” HRD Minister Smriti Irani said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

The scholarship amount is a tuition fee of Rs.30,000 or at actual, whichever is less, and Rs.2,000 per month for 10 months as contingency allowance.

The candidates will be selected on the basis of a qualifying examination to pursue technical education in AICTE approved institutions.
