Police, Maoists exchange fire in Wayanad

By TCN News,

Kozhikode: A gun battle broke out between the Maoists and Thunderbolts of the Kerala police at Vellamunda in Wayanad.

However, there was no casualty. The incident that occurred on Sunday was reported from Vellamunda police station limits in Waynad during a combing operation of the special police force.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the Thunderbolt were on the search for Maoists in the forest, when they were fired at by the Maoists. Police returned fire with several rounds.

“All police stations in Wayanad district have been asked to step up alert. There is no panic situation,” he added.

Kerala police have been maintaining close watch in tribal areas as these are the places that Maoists use to frequent. Two companies of the Thunderbolt are camping in the forest area.

“Things are absolutely under the control of police and there is no need for any panic or fear as our police are fully geared and ready to tackle any situation,” Chennithala said.
