AAP demands probe into DDA allowing mobile towers in parks

New Delhi: The AAP Thursday demanded a probe into DDA’s decision to allow the installation of some 450 telecom towers in parks in residential areas in the capital, saying the move violated a court order which prohibited the setting up of such towers in the vicinity of children’s playgrounds as these emit electromagnetic radiations.

“The AAP has received complaints from residents of Dwarka that in at least 45 neighbourhood parks of the area, DDA granted permission to Reliance Jio Infocom Limited Oct 31 to set up telecom towers and the installation work has been started,” the Aam Aadmi Party said in a statement.

Citing a notification issued by the Delhi Development Authority, the party said the DDA action violated the Rajasthan High Court judgment of November 2012, upheld by the Supreme Court, that mobile towers cannot be installed near children’s playgrounds, schools and hospitals, citing emission of electromagnetic radiations.

“The AAP demands that the central government should immediately order a probe into why the DDA rushed through this controversial decision without consulting the residents of the area,” it stated.
