NGO urges Maharashtra CM to stop discrimination against minorities

Mumbai: Maharashtra unit of All India Qaumi Tanzeem (AIQT), an NGO headed by NCP MP Tariq Anwar, on Thursday wrote a letter to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis demanding solution of number of minorities issues in the state so as to stop what the NGO claims occurrences of discrimination against minorities.

The memorandum was sent to Chief Minister through Collector of Thane on 18 December which is observed as Minority Rights Day. The NGO alleges that there are hundreds of instances in the state when minority had to suffer because of discrimination of policy.

“It is the duty of the government to provide all the rights to the minorities irrespective of their population and religion,” the memorandum reads before enlisting its ten odd demands that the NGO believes will help in eradicating cases of discrimination of Minorities in the state.

Aaftab Shaikh, AIQT president Konkan region told TwoCircles.net, “The feeling of discrimination is growing amongst the minorities and therefore we have decided to raise long forgotten issues before the new government.”

Speaking on the course of action if their demands are not fulfilled in near future, he said, “We are determined to get these issues solved by the government and therefore if no positive response is shown by the Chief Minister, then we will agitate in a democratic way”.

“We shall apply for permission to hold protest in Thane after Republic day and will display our dissatisfaction, if we are not given probable assurance by the CM”, he informed.

Following are the demands posed by the AIQT before the Chief Minister of Maharashtra:

1) Government should accept and honour the judicial reports of Justice Sacchar and Justice Mishra Commissions and give 10% reservation to Muslims in government jobs, educational, political and co-operative sectors.
2) Take immediate action to implement the Justice Shrikrishna Commission report.
3) District level Girl’s Hostel must be constructed in Muslim areas in order to make them feel safe.
4) Muslims, Dalit and Aadivasis constitute 38.8% of total population of our country but the fact is that among them 53% are under trials. Fake cases have being registered against them and it must stop in any case. The government should not only release them but also declare compensation in order to prove their innocence.
5) Give all convenience and facilities to the Maharashtra State Urdu Academy Awardees as given to other language awardees.
6) Declare Rs one crore grant to Maharashtra State Urdu Sahitya Academy.
7) Construction of Urdu Bhawan in the areas of Urdu speaking people.
8) Appoint Urdu teachers as early as possible in local body Urdu schools where Urdu teaching staff positions are vacant.
9) Make the process easier and faster for the availability of Loan from Maulana Azad Financial Corporation.
10) Implement new Prime Minister 15 point programme effectively so that the minorities get benefit of the schemes.
