Kolkata : Causing embarrassment to the Trinamool Congress yet again, suspended party MP Kunal Ghosh, now in jail for his alleged involvement in the Saradha chit fund scam, Monday claimed before a local court that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the biggest beneficiary of the media units run by the now tainted group.
“If anyone has derived most benefit from Saradha Media, then it is the chief minister,” Ghosh told the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Arvind Mishra.
The journalist-turned-MP had levelled similar allegations targeting Banerjee in September when he was being presented before a court.
Ghosh claimed Monday he was prepared to share specific information with the Central Bureau of Investigation in this regard.
Ghosh, who was CEO of Saradha media till April last year when the scandal came to light, has been behind bars since November 2013, after his arrest by the state police,
Speaking before the judge, Ghosh also referred to the different treatment meted out to him and others.
“I am in jail, while someone else is in hotel,” he said, referring to arrested minister Mitra.
Mitra has been transferred to the state run premier hospital SSKM hours after he was remanded to jail Dec 19 on spending seven days in CBI custody.
Later, Central Bureau of Investigation lawyer Partha Sarathi Dutta said the court has asked the investigation officer to record Ghosh’ statement.
