NHRC notice to UP over death of school student

New Delhi : The NHRC Tuesday issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on the case of a seven-year-old child was allegedly beaten to death by his school principal.

Takin suo motu cognizance of a media report, the National Human Rights Commission issued notice to the principal secretary of the state’s education department as well as the superintendent of police, Deoria calling for a report within two weeks.

According to the NHRC, the principal of DSR Public School in Deoria district “brutally thrashed” an upper kindergarten student who eventually lost his life after his parents failed Rs.4,500 as school fee.

“The commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim,” it said.

The severely-injured boy Mohammad Aaraj was taken to the hospital by the principal and school manager, where the doctors declared him dead.

The school authorities then dumped the body on the highway, as per the report.
