AMU Women’s College celebrates its Founder’s Day

Aligarh: The Women’s College of the Aligarh Muslim University today celebrated its Founder’s Day.

Mr. Syed Shahid Mehdi, former Vice Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia was the chief guest and AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah presided over the function. Brig. (Retd.) S. Ahmad Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor also graced the occasion.

On this occasion, Ms. Ayesha Zainab Beg and Ms. Sabiha Khatoon were conferred upon Papa Mian Padma Bhushan Best Girl and M. J. Haider Academic Award, respectively.

College newsletter, “Campus Connect”, edited by Lubna Irfan was released by the chief guest. Further, six books authored by the faculty members of the Women’s College were also released.

Presenting the annual report, Prof. Naheed M. Khan, Principal, Women’s College said that Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and his wife Mrs. Wahen Jahan established a small school for girls in 1906.

She said that this college offered 34 courses of study under the canopy of six faculties. The present strength of the college is over 2563.

Prof. Khan observed that the present Vice Chancellor, Gen. Shah has very graciously sanctioned Rs. ten lakh for purchase of books. The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali has also sanctioned Rs. Seven lakh for the first ever book bank facility initiated in the current session.

She said that several companies of international repute visited the Women’s College for campus placement drives and our students have made us proud with their excellent performance.

On this occasion, AMU Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor and female Education Association’s Secretary, Prof. Zakia Athar Siddiqui gave away medals, awards and certificates of excellence to the meritorious students.
