‘Shadi Bureau’ of minority welfare launched in Assam

Guwahati: ‘Shadi Bureau (SB)’ of Minority Welfare Society (MWS) was launched by Muktar Hussain Ahmed Choudhury, former Additional Commissioner of Taxes, Government of Assam & President, MWS at the Murshidul Alom Memorial Hall in Dispur on Sunday at the Senior Women’s Meet hosted the Ladies’ Wing of the MSW.

Choudhury said SB would help parents who have children of marriageable age in locating suitable matches for matrimonial alliance. He said, “This was a long-felt need and I am sure it would be a blessing for families of Barak Valley who are now residing in and around Guwahati.”

In her keynote address, Prof Raina Khanam Mazumdar, Department of Arabic, Gauhati University said, “A woman during her school and college days is known by her name. But soon after marriage, it is common to refer to her as ‘so and so’s wife’ and after some more years as ‘so and so’s mother’.”

She said this is unfortunate. Thus she exhorted all women to pursue their interests and achieve excellence in those pursuits so that they get recognition for their own deeds and attain an identity of their own in the society.

Dr Chayema Jahan Laskar delivered a talk on health care tips for senior women. Others who spoke on the occasion were Jasmine Choudhury, Burhana Choudhury and Sahera Begum Choudhury. Nilufar Mazumdar, the organiser of the Meet, announced that the Ladies Wing has plans for organising a health check-up camp, cooking competition and study circle exclusively for the ladies in the coming months.

The Ladies Wing presented all senior lady citizens of the society with books of spiritual guidance and knowledge.

Abdul Waris Choudhury, former Dy Secy Govt of Assam & General Secy MWS, informed the audience that a corpus of Rs 3 lakh has been set up for introduction of the ‘Sahidul Alom Choudhury Memorial Award’ from the current year. The Annual Award instituted in memory of one of Barak Valley’s most charismatic leaders would be given to a person for outstanding service to the community.

Jiyauddin Choudhury, former MD of Apex Bank and Vice President MWS, informed that 2nd issue of Barak, the annual souvenir of MWS, would be released during the forthcoming annual general meeting of the Society. He appealed to the members to contribute articles and write-ups for the same.
