Bangalore: The Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM), Washington DC, has completed the construction of an additional wing of 6 classrooms to add to the Ideal Junior High School in Kumta, Karnataka.
Kumta is a small town located about 60 miles from Mangalore in coastal Karnataka state. This is the only Muslim community school in the city of Kumta where Muslims comprise about 15% of the population.
About ten years ago some local Muslim community people collected funds and built a junior high school comprising of 9 rooms, that teaches children according to the CBSI curriculum and English medium.
.
However, at this time the enrolment in the school has grown to over 700 leading too much overcrowding. To remove this problem our Association provided a donation of about $50,000 to build a set of classrooms in an extension wing, named the AIM Wing.
The new building was inaugurated in early January during the visit of Dr AQ Shaikh, one of the Board members of our Association to Kumta. Kumta is Dr Shaikh’s home town.
