Rebels kill eight in Syrian town

Damascus : The Al Qaeda-inspired Nusra Front stormed a town in southern Syria Wednesday, killing at least eight people, the official SANA news agency reported.

The Nusra fighters attacked the town of Dawayeh in the southern province of Qunaitera, torturing eight people to death and taking tens of others hostage, Xinhua quoted SANA as saying in a report. It added that the attackers mutilated the bodies of the dead.

The attack on Dawayeh came two days after the Nusra fighters stormed the pro-government town of Ma’an in the central province of Hama, killing at least 42 people, including women and children, according to SANA.

The governor of Qunaitera, Maen Salahuddien, Wednesday’s attack, saying that the radical groups’ attacks target all the Syrians indiscriminately.

Also, Syria’s Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi condemned the attack, saying such attacks will not dissuade his government from fighting terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that many people have been killed over the past two days in the southern province of Daraa and the northern province of Aleppo as a result of airstrikes by the government forces.
