Kolkata/Murshidabad: The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the Aligarh Muslim University Murshidabad Centre’s campus in Jangipur, West Bengal on February 20, 2014 at 2:30 pm.
It is an honour to the Aligarh Muslim University that the President of India is visiting AMU programmes thrice in the last three months, a statement by AMU read.

The Governor of West Bengal, Mr. M. K. Narayanan will also grace the occasion. AMU has also invited Ms. Mamta Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mr. Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Railways and Member of Parliament, Mr. Abhijeet Mukherjee.
AMU Murshidabad Centre is offering five year BALLB integrated course, MBA and B.Ed. to provide an easy access to modern education to the educationally deprived section of this region.

A team of top university officials under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah is reaching Murshidabad. AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig (Retd.) S. Ahmad Ali, Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Iqbal Ali Khan, Dean Faculty of Management Studies and Research, Prof. M. Israrul Haque, Coordinator of AMU Centres, Prof. Javaid Akhter, University Engineer, Mr. Firoz Khan and the PRO, Dr. Rahat Abrar will also participate in the programme.
The new AMU campus is coming up in 288 Acre plot of land at Arihan in Murshidabad, under the the Suti Police station.

In 2009, the foundation was laid by then chief minister of West Bengal in presence of then senior minister in the UPA cabinet Mr Mukharjee. Construction was temporarily suspended due to protest by BJP workers in 2012. The campus is still not fully ready, but some of the buildings are ready which will open up for study.
