Danish woman rape case: One accused to undergo potency test

New Delhi : A court here Thursday ordered one of the accused involved in robbing and gang-raping a 51-year-old Danish tourist to undergo potency test.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sudhanshu Kaushik asked police to take the 55-year-old Shyam Lal alias Bhajni for a potency test and file a status report. The court has listed the matter for March 6 for further hearing.

The court order came on a plea by Shyam Lal claiming that he is impotent.

“Accused to undergo potency test in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a woman,” the court said.

Arjun, another accused in the case, has claimed to be a juvenile and the court has asked police to verify his age and file a report.

Meanwhile, the court has extended the judicial custody of the six adult accused, arrested in the case, for next 14 days.

Police had chargesheeted the accused under various section dealing with gang rape and robbery.

Arjun, Raju alias Chhakka, Mohammad Raja, Mahendra alias Ganja, Raju alias Bajji and Shyam Lal have been charge sheeted for robbing and raping the Danish woman at knife-point near New Delhi Railway Station last month, after she sought directions to her hotel in Paharganj.

A minor was also involved in the crime. Police had said all the accused were vagabonds who took the woman to an isolated spot near the Divisional Railway Officers’ Club close to the railway station, took away her belongings and then raped her.
