Kolkata: A six-member BJP delegation from Bihar Saturday met the family of the Madhyamgram gang-rape victim, who died earlier this week after she was allegedly set ablaze. The delegation assured the family of legal and financial help.
The assembly and legislative council members and former ministers who were part of the delegation from the neighbouring state condemned the brutal incident and sought exemplary punishment for the culprits, BJP sources said.
“They talked to the family which shared its harrowing experiences of the past months. They will submit a report to the party once they return. They will also take up with the Bihar government whatever is needed to be done for the family,” party sources said.
The girl, whose father is a taxi driver hailing from Bihar, was gang-raped twice in October in Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district. She breathed her last Tuesday at a government hospital where she was admitted with severe burn injuries Dec 23.
Police have slapped murder charges against two accused, now in custody, based on the girl’s dying declaration that the duo had set her ablaze.
