Chennai : DMK president M. Karunanidhi Thusday said no talks have been held yet with the DMDK for an alliance to fight the Lok Sabha election.
Answering a reporter’s query on a possible alliance with the DMDK, Karunanidhi said: “Talks have not taken place. Hence, there is no question on its progress.”
The DMK is keen on bringing the DMDK into its fold to fight the general elections this year. The latter has so far not expressed any views on the issue.
Karunanidhi had earlier said he would be “happy” if there was an alliance between the two parties.
Karunanidhi also said that the DMK had not decided on fielding candidates for the Feb 7 Rajya Sabha election.
Six Rajya Sabha members are set to retire in April. Of these, two are from DMK: Vasanthi Stanley and S. Amir Ali Jinnah.
On its own, the DMK will not be able to elect its candidate(s) to the Rajya Sabha as it lacks the requisite numbers.
