UN praises Yemen for national dialogue

    United Nations : UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon Wednesday congratulated Yemenis people on the conclusion of the national dialogue conference, calling it “a major step forward” in the transition of the country.

    Yemen has demonstrated to the region that positive change is possible when pursued through dialogue and compromise, Xinhua quoted the UN chief in a statement.

    The talks represent “a major step forward in the transition of Yemen and a hard won achievement, in the face of obstacles and delays”, it said.

    The national dialogue conference brought new actors to the political process such as youth, women, civil society representatives and the Hiraak Southern Movement, so as to prepare them for a constitution-making process and pave the way for general elections this year.

    In the statement, Ban also commended the leadership and determination of President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and the delegates of the conference in bringing it to a successful conclusion.
