Kishanganj: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah today said that an invitation letter was sent to Shri Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar along with the Governor of Bihar, Dr. D. Y. Patil. He said that Shri Kumar has been requested again to grace the foundation laying ceremony of AMU Kishanganj Centre on January 30.
Addressing a press conference at the Boys Hostel of AMU Kishanganj Centre, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah made it clear that the AMU Kishanganj Centre cannot be run without the active cooperation of the Government of Bihar. He pointed out that Shri Nitish Kumar has been very generous to this centre from very beginning and his government has provided the required land in Chakla village for the establishment of the centre.
He said that it has also provided two hostels of Department of Minority Welfare to conduct classes of the centre. He hoped that Bihar government will also provide all help and assistance in developing this centre into an important centre of higher education as the Kerala and West Bengal governments have extended support in establishing such centres in Malappuram and Murshidabad.
Gen. Shah said that he plans to start a new course in every session at this centre. He observed that it was imperative to launch professional courses at this centre so that the youth of this region get employment based education. He said that he will try to establish a Polytechnic in Kishanganj Centre as soon as possible.
The Vice Chancellor said that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson, United Progressive Alliance will lay the foundation stone of the Kishanganj Centre on January 30.
The Vice Chancellor visited the venue of the ceremony and expressed satisfaction on ongoing preparations. He also interacted with the local people and appreciated the enthusiasm found amongst the common people. He said that the alumni of AMU residing in this area were extending their full support and assistance in the preparations. Kishanganj District Magistrate also reviewed the preparations for foundation stone laying ceremony.
Lt. Gen. Shah said that the Government of India has allocated a fund of Rs. 135 Crore and construction work will commence as soon as the allocated fund is released.
The Coordinator of AMU Centres, Prof. Jawaid Akhtar, OSD, Kishanganj Centre, Dr. Rashid Nehal and AMU’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Rahat Abrar was present in the press conference.
