Kejriwal and Speaker M.S. Dhir paid floral tributes at Gandhi’s statute at the assembly complex at the Old Secretariat.

Law Minister Somnath Bharti, Women and Child Development Minister Rakhi Birla and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Harsh Vardhan also paid floral tributes.

Artists from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya recited Gandhi’s favourite bhajans on the occasion and a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the apostle of non-violence.

Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on this day in 1948 at Birla House located on what is now Tees January Marg in the heart of Delhi. The building is now a museum, known as Gandhi Smriti.
