Chennai : Legislators belonging to the DMK party Friday were evicted from the state assembly following a heated argument with Speaker P. Dhanapal for expunging some remarks by a ruling party member.

Trouble started when AIADMK member G.V. Markendeyan, speaking on the motion of thanks to the governor for his address Thursday, made some remarks about DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s press conference on the rivalry between his two sons M.K. Alagiri and M.K. Stalin.

Reacting to the remark, DMK members demanded the speaker expunge the remarks as these had no connection with the discussion on Governor K. Rosaiah’s address.

However, members of the ruling party argued the remarks should go on record.

At this stage, the speaker allowed DMK deputy leader Duraimurugan to speak.

The speaker later expunged some remarks made by Duraimurugan, leading to further protests.

Meanwhile, DMK legislator S.S. Sivasankar tore a copy of the governor’s address.

The speaker ordered the eviction of all the DMK legislators.

Later, the house passed a resolution suspending Sivasankar for the rest of the session for tearing Rosaiah’s address.
