Sketch of Karachi airport attack’s mastermind released

Islamabad : The police Friday released a sketch of the alleged mastermind of the terror attacks on Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.

The sketch was developed by the Sindh police in assistance with witnesses, Dawn online reported.

The attack on the airport began on the night of June 8 and lasted for several hours into June 9.

The attack was carried out by 10 militants and killed at least 34.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) along with Uzbek fighters from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier, military officials said that the mastermind was killed in airstrikes carried out by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter jets in North Waziristan.

The man has been identified as Abu Abdul Rehman al Maan.

The Pakistani Army launched a comprehensive operation named Zarb-e-Azb against foreign and local militants hiding in sanctuaries in the North Waziristan tribal region a week after the attack.

So far more than 400 suspected militants, mostly foreigners, have been killed during the operation.

Earlier Tuesday, FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) said that the number of internally displaced persons had almost reached 800,000.
