Chennai : The DMK Saturday dismissed its Dharmapuri south district secretary Mullaiventhan while retaining suspended ex-union minister S.S. Palanimanickam as a party member.
In a statement issued here, DMK general secretary K. Anbazhagan said Palanimanickam and the party functionary in Dharmapuri district, Inbasekaran, have been allowed to continue as party members without any official position.
He said Mullaiventhan who was issued a show cause notice seeking clarifications was dismissed from the party for issuing a statement against the leadership.
According to Anbazhagan, based on the clarifications given by the suspended members, it can be said that some of the complaints against them were due to rivalry.
He said the party has decided to drop disciplinary action against other suspended members.
Last month, the DMK temporarily suspended 33 party officials and issued notices seeking an explanation why they should not be removed from the party.
The DMK had received complaints against them of anti-party activities which resulted in the party drawing a blank in the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
The party could not win in any of the 40 constituencies (39 in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry).
