New Delhi : The killing of a Manipuri BPO employee was raised in parliament Tuesday with the government assuring that efforts were on to arrest all the accused.
Manipuri youth Akha Salouni, 29, was beaten to death Monday by five youths, of whom three were arrested. The brutal attack sparked outrage in the northeastern community.
Members in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha expressed concern over incidents of violence with people from the northeast in Delhi.
BJP leader Tarun Vijay raised the issue during zero hour in the Rajya Sabha.
“This is not the first incident. What are people in Delhi doing to the people from the northeast? They are making them feel this is not their home,” Vijay said.
Several other members joined him in expressing concern over the situation.
Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien said it is a very serious matter and the government should make a statement on it.
In the Lok Sabha, leader of the Congress in the house Mallikarjun Kharge demanded a statement from the home minister on the matter.
Making a statement in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said: “Delhi Police have examined all the eyewitnesses as well as the CCTV footage.”
“Efforts are on to arrest the remaining two assailants. A special investigation team has been constituted,” he said, adding investigations into the incident are on.
