Amethi : Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Friday attacked the Shiv Sena and the BJP over the incident in Maharashtra Sadan in which a Shiv Sena MP tried to force-feed a fasting Muslim staffer, saying the two parties base their politics on “bullying people”.
Talking to reporters in his Uttar Pradesh constituency, Gandhi also slammed the Narendra Modi government over price rise, saying that it has failed to check rising prices of essential commodities despite making promises.
Asked about the Maharashtra Sadan incident, he said it reflected the ideology of the Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“This is the ideology of the BJP and Shiv Sena. They base their politics on bullying people,” he said.
Shiv Sena MP Rajan Vichare was seen in a video clip trying to force food into the mouth of a Muslim staffer who was observing Ramadan fast. It kicked off a political storm Wednesday, with parliament witnessing an uproar.
Attacking the Modi government, Gandhi said the biggest promise made by the National Democratic Alliance was that it will bring down prices.
“The government which has come, its biggest promise was to contain price rise and corruption. The prices of vegetables have gone up. There has been no solid action on the two issues,” he said.
“There is a lot of difference between (their) words and deeds,” Gandhi added.
