Lucknow : Bowing to public pressure and demands of the BJP, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday ordered 24×7 power supply for Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Shyamdev Chowdhary was on a fast for the past four days demanding round-the-clock supply to the temple town.
Chowdhary was Monday brought to Lucknow after his condition deteriorated and a meeting with the chief minister was fixed.
Accompanied by former Lucknow Lok Sabha member Lalji Tandon, the legislator met Yadav at his office where he was assured that the temple town will get 24×7 power supply.
A statement released by the chief minister’s office, however, said the decision was taken to facilitate the large number of tourists who visit the town.
The state is reeling under a severe power crisis, leading to a deteriorating law and order situation in many places.
