Patna : A man was arrested Wednesday in Bihar with fake currency notes of the face value of Rs.10 lakh while two of his associates escaped, police said.
A team of the Special Task Force of the Bihar Police arrested the man near the Patna railway station after he alighted from the Farakka Express along with two others.
They were on their way to deliver the counterfeit notes to some people here, IG Operations Amit Kumar told media persons here.
The fake notes of Rs.1,000 denomination, recovered from him, had come from Bangladesh, he said.
Amit Kumar said STF officials interrogated the arrested man, resident of Malda district in West Bengal, for information on more people involved in the racket.
Officials said Bihar has emerged as a hub for distribution of fake notes.
Till a few years ago, counterfeit notes brought from Bangladesh were smuggled to Nepal via West Bengal and Bihar before being pumped back into the country.
In February this year, two people were arrested with fake notes of the face value of Rs.10 lakh from the Muzaffarpur railway station. Muzaffarpur is about 70 km from Patna.
