Washington DC: On the twelfth anniversary of that Black Day in Gujarat, Indian Muslims who live in north America have demanded that the President and Supreme Court of India who are non-political institutions, institute actions to give justice to the victims of the 2002 genocide in Gujarat.

Today, February 28, represents a black day in the post-independence history of the Indian nation. It was on this day twelve years ago that some fascist Hindu groups perpetrated a genocide of the Muslim citizens in the state of Gujarat. It is a matter of shame that the chief Minister, other high officials and police in Gujarat state abetted the said fascist groups in their monstrous killing of about 2000 innocent Muslim men, women and children. About 100,000 Muslims became homeless when their homes, schools, places of worship were destroyed,” a statement of IAMC read.
Yet, for twelve long years the government of India and the government of the state of Gujarat has ignored these horrible crimes and have mostly declined to bring to justice hundreds of marauders and killers, including the high Gujarat state officials and the state’s chief minister Narendra Modi. Additionally the state of Gujarat is continuing to mistreat its Muslim citizens, denying municipal services and educational facilities in localities where they live, and denying facilities that the central government has sanctioned for them.
Much economic and industrial progress has been achieved in India in the last twelve years and the nation in claiming to be among the top nations on earth. But how can that happen when the entire Muslim community of the state of Gujarat is being denied basic justice. Moreover it is very regrettable that Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat who was responsible for this genocide is now being projected by his party, Bhati Janata Party, as the Prime Minister of India. How can the ancient nation of India allow that to happen?
